The Human Condition

The Human Condition

The themes of my art are influenced by not just my own darkness but that of all humanity and what appears to be a need to slowly destroy ourselves and the world around us, the human condition.

The human condition is a complex and multifaceted concept that encompasses the totality of human existence, including the physical, mental, emotional, and social aspects of being human. It is a fundamental aspect of human nature and shapes our perceptions, experiences, and interactions with the world around us.

At its core, the human condition is characterised by the constant struggle to navigate the challenges and uncertainties of life, as well as the pursuit of meaning, purpose, and fulfilment. It is a dynamic and ever-evolving state that is shaped by a multitude of factors, including culture, society, history, and individual experiences.

One of the key aspects of the human condition is our capacity for self-awareness and introspection, which allows us to reflect on our own existence and contemplate our place in the world. This self-awareness often leads to a sense of existential angst or a search for meaning and purpose, as we grapple with questions about the nature of life, death, and the universe.

One of the key problems with human condition is that this introspection and self-awareness quite often manifests itself from the view of just oneself, without the consideration of others. This lack of empathy is a deficiency in the ability to understand, relate to, and share the feelings, thoughts, and experiences of others. It can manifest as indifference, callousness, or a lack of concern for the well-being of others. This can lead to a variety of negative consequences, including interpersonal conflicts, social isolation, and a diminished sense of community.

The lack of empathy is often seen as a contributing factor to various social issues, such as discrimination, violence, and inequality. It reflects a fundamental aspect of human nature that encompasses our capacity for greed, selfishness, and moral relativism. This is often seen in the context of history, where individuals and groups have committed atrocities. Highlighting the importance of developing and nurturing empathy as a core aspect of our humanity and promoting a more compassionate and inclusive society.

Overall, the human condition is a rich and complex phenomenon that encompasses the full range of human experiences and emotions. It is a fundamental aspect of what it means to be human and acts as a constant source of inspiration for me. To provide my viewpoint on who we are and the inherent darkness that appears to reside in society today. But ultimately, the key here is to harvest more compassion and more empathy for our fellow humans. Until we can understand what it means to walk in another's shoes we will struggle with the basic concept of understanding.

"The human condition is such that pain and effort are not just symptoms which can be removed without changing life itself; they are the modes in which life itself, together with the necessity to which it is bound, makes itself felt." - Hannah Arendt
